On the 5th of July, the Fields medals 2022 were awarded to four mathematicians. The four mathematicians that won the Fields medals this year are: Hugo Duminil-Copin, June Huh, James Maynard. and Maryna Viazovska.

One of the crucial aspects of working together in a big consortium like NETWORKS is actually meeting each other now and then.

It was August 2014 when Maryam Mirzakhani became the first woman to win the Fields Medal. I was in a cafe in Rome and I remember when the Italian radio announced it in the news. I was a maths PhD student in a male-dominated research area and I got very excited.
